Pyramids of Elevon

This week, I present another concept drawing of one of the game’s locations: Elevon. It is a manifestation of Lila’s ingenuity and logic, populated by gentlemen scientists and their quixotic experimentations. They even have a rocket.

This is a city of science, but a strange mix of it. Retro and bionetic (living machinery) mingle amid the step pyramids upon which buildings are constructed. Exposed gears and pipes peek out of the pyramids and suggest mysterious goings-on. You can never tell with inventors.

Surrounding Elevon’s pyramids is a vast stretch of desert, where only thorny plants and hardy iguanas thrive. Well, there might be more out there, but don’t go exploring unprepared.

Too bad the image is so small. It’d make a great wallpaper!

Hey, looks awesome! Wish I had enough time to draw.

Nice composition! A grand scientific paradise in the middle of a seemingly desolate desert…. Who knows what the inventors would think of next!

At this rate other bizzare manifestations of Lila’s ‘DREAMs’ will be popping up soon….. Good Luck!

Looks really good!

“…gentlemen scientists…”

YES.

I know that the game’ll be ready when it’s ready, but is there any more recent information on the timetable since the game|life interview? I’m really psyched, and am looking forward to this fall.

Joyd, we’re looking at late November for the launch, but Beta will happen well before that. We’re starting work on Alpha now.

I love all the tiny little details…I’ve almost got my nose pressed against the computer screen :) Ha, I just now noticed the “rock formation/carving” that’s holding up the rocket. Looks fantastic!

Yup, definite steampunk vibe. Even if I don’t get a minion out of it, the art’s going to be awesome because of it.

Well, despite of being a city of science, the city looks rustic to me. I loved the contrast.

One other thing that I like

“Surrounding Elevon’s pyramids is a vast stretch of desert, where only thorny plants and hardy iguanas thrive. Well, there might be more out there, but don’t go exploring unprepared.”

I get the impression that the game encourages exploration, and finding a cool little level tucked away in a massive desert would be very satisfying. Exploration is something games overlook, instead opting for a scripted event.

Looking forward to this.

What with LD being an MMO, it would be rather difficult to *do* scripted events. Though with instances I guess you could, but they’ve said that it’s not really an RPG so I wouldn’t expect them even with this, but even with this few MMOs really reward the explorer’s mindset.

Me? I like the idea and will happily wander a persistent world looking for stuff. If you’re right (and their phrasing could well agree with you, though it may also just be dramatic wording) I’d be a happy little anthropomorphic personification.

Here’s hoping.
